Tiny loyal helpers…

HABITS. That’s what we are talking about today.

Creating habits that help you meet your goals doesn’t have to feel like climbing a mountain with a backpack full of questionable life choices. Building habits can be surprisingly simple, and even fun when you learn to approach them the right way. Think of habits as tiny, loyal helpers who show up every day to move you a little closer to achieving those lofty goals we hope to attain.

How do we start a habit? First, you need clarity. You can’t build habits that support your goals if you’re not entirely sure what those goals are. Imagine walking into a grocery store without a list ? You’d walk out with three types of cheese, some tomatoes, and no actual dinner. Define what you want clearly: “I want to write a book,” “I want to run a 10K,” or “I want to stop hitting snooze like it’s an Olympic event.” Once you know the destination, you can start creating habits that act like stepping-stones toward it.

Now, here’s the fun part: start small. And I mean small-small. The kind of small that feels almost embarrassingly easy. If your goal is to read more, start with two pages a day. If you want to exercise regularly, begin with five minutes. Tiny habits work because they’re less intimidating than the big dramatic routines we imagine we “should” be doing. When something is easy, we’re much more likely to stick to it, and consistency beats intensity every time.

Pairing your new habits with something you already do is another secret weapon. This is called “habit stacking,” and it’s basically the peanut butter and jelly of productivity. Tie a new habit onto an existing one: after brushing your teeth, stretch for two minutes. After finishing dinner, write one sentence toward your big writing dream. After feeding the cat, take a deep breath let your shoulders relax.

Next up: make the habit enjoyable. Humans are basically big reward-seeking machines wearing fancy shirts. If your habit feels like punishment, you’ll avoid it faster than you avoid someone who says “We need to talk.” Add rewards, small, immediate ones. Listen to your favorite playlist while cleaning. Get a sticker (yes, adults deserve stickers). Brew a fancy tea for your evening reading. A little pleasure goes a long way.

And while we’re on the topic of pleasure, let’s talk environment. Set yourself up to win. If you want to eat healthier, put fruit on the counter and hide the cookies. If you want to exercise in the morning, lay out your clothes the night before so groggy-you has fewer excuses. Shape your surroundings so your habits become the default, not the exception.

Finally, remember that slipping up is normal. You’re building habits, not trying to achieve mythical perfection. Miss a day? No big deal, just don’t miss two. Progress is like a wobbly toddler: messy, adorable, and somehow still effective.

Creating habits isn’t magic, but it is powerful. With small steps, tiny rewards, and a little humor, you can build routines that gently but consistently steer you toward your goals, along with a future you might look back and say, “Wow, nice job.”
