Summer has a vibe, doesn’t it? The sun’s out, days are longer, and suddenly, life feels a little more laid-back, especially now that school is out. If there were ever a perfect time to hit reset and build better habits, it’s now. Whether you’re looking to boost your energy, get outside more, or just feel a bit more balanced, here are a few easy, feel-good habits to try this summer.
- Morning walks. Waking up a bit earlier is a little easier in the summer months. The sun is up, so why not you? That early morning sun does wonders for your cortisol levels and a good night’s sleep when the day is over. Try a short walk around the block to clear and calm your mind.
- Balance your sun exposure. A little sun is good for you, your immune system and your vitamin D levels will thank you. The sun exposure becomes problematic when you fry your skin to a blistering mess. When you wear sunscreen, choose natural ingredients. Grab a hat, sunglasses, and sun protective clothing as an alternate to chemical laden options.
- Eat one fresh thing a day. This can’t be that hard. Fresh fruit is plentiful and so are the veggies. Try your hand at grilling some fresh veggies and put together some new recipes with fruit in season.
- Unplug. This one is big. The internet and social media has stolen so much from us. Don’t let it steal your summer too! For just one hour a day, put the phone down. You won’t miss a thing, except maybe some phony posts about your neighbors spotless kitchen! It’s not true, she’s in just as big of a mess as you! It’s summer. Let’s relax in every possible way!
- Stay Hydrated. With rising temps, increased hydration is smart. Find ways to make it taste better than usual. Add some lemon or other fresh fruit with a little splash of flavor.
- Plan a mini escape. It doesn’t have to be far. In fact, go exploring with the kids to some of the local attractions you don’t visit often. It could even be as simple as an hour at the library for a little peace and quiet.
What could you add to this list of easy summer habits to adopt? You really have nothing to lose by giving it a shot, but some improved moods each day and tools to better manage stress. Summer doesn’t have to be packed with productivity or pressure. It’s a season that invites you to slow down, soak it all in, and try new things. These habits aren’t about changing everything—they’re just about adding a little more ease and joy to your days.
