Love it or hate it?

Whether you love the new year, or hate it…it’s here!

How do you handle a new year? Are you the type to scrawl out a series of goals or just carry on as one year bleeds into the next?

Regardless of your feelings for a new year, it does bring with it a natural sense of reset, or assessment. It is a time when we can review what is working and what is not, in our lives. Just taking time to reflect, doesn’t mean we have to do anything about it.

What are some of the things we can reflect upon as we embark on a new year, a new chapter of life?

Review and Celebrate. Take a look at all the positive things that happened last year? What risks did you take? Did they pay off? Plan a little celebration to acknowledge your accomplishments.

Gratitude. I think it’s important, once you have written down all the great things that happened last year, to recognize your gratitude for all those good things. Gratitude is really an under used a tool for success to propel us forward. Oftentimes, we get in the weeds for all the minor things that go awry from day to day and forget to notice the many things that actually do work out and bless us. Those feelings of gratitude can really empower us to keep going.

Do some cleaning. It’s a great time to reset the house. Choose the place in need of the most help. Is it the junk drawer? The hall closet that is spilling out from the hinges? How about the expired food and empty boxes in the pantry. I don’t know about you, but a little cleaning and decluttering can feel like a deep cleansing breath.

Acquire new skills. This is a fun way to increase your energy for a new year. What have you always wanted to do in life? Are there community classes or online classes you can take to increase your skill stack or just do something fun and meet new people?

Goals. If you aren’t a goal setter, just skip this part. If you are, write them down! It’s a lot easier to create accountability when we have written down our goals and placed in a visual location where we can keep them at the front of our mind. Have you ever made a vision board? What a great visual reminder of the things we want to accomplish.

What are some other ways you celebrate a new year?
